Abstract

In this paper, a damage-based adaptive model order reduction method is proposed for nonlinear dynamic analysis. The proposed method define and adjust the zooming property of subdomains adaptively according to the damage distribution. For the zooming-out subdomains, the component mode method is used to make model order reduction. For the zooming-in subdomains, the element substitute technique is used to replace original finite elements with refined finite elements. Eventually, a group of governing equations is formed in hybrid coordinate space, and the dynamic analysis is accelerated by solving such a group of governing equations with reduced DOFs. A 20-story steel frame building is utilized to validate its effectiveness and feasibility. The results show that the adaptive zooming method is able to increase the calculation efficiency dramatically without scarifying simulation accuracy.
