Abstract
The mooring chain link near the fairlead could suffer from out-of-plane bending (OPB) load due to the motion of floating platform, which maybe cause damage. A finite element model of studless chain with R4 grade and 124 mm diameter is established, and the Archard wear theory is used to calculate the wear value of chain link. While the uniform corrosion model is introduced, the analysis of chain link under the combined of wear and corrosion effects in the long term ocean condition is conducted, and the stress distribution and the contact characteristic are compared under different out-of-bending angles. The calculation results show that the stress distribution law of two sides in the shoulder area of mooring chain link are changed due to the OPB load, and the location of maximum stress is changed from the contact area to the shoulder area because of the combined effect of wear and corrosion. The OPB load has significant influence on the change law of stress distribution of mooring chain link.
