Abstract

Owing to the unique structure, morphology, extraordinary mechanical and electrical properties, carbon nanomaterials have triggered revolutionary innovations in the fields of information, materials, energy, biopharmaceuticals, etc. In recent years, the modification of cementitious composites with extremely low content of carbon nanomaterials has raised widespread attention. The application of carbon nanomaterials not only improves the microstructure and mechanical properties of cement-based composites, but also endows traditional cement-based materials with multi-functional properties, such as electrical conductivity and piezoresistive properties. Based on the morphology and surface chemistry of carbon nanomaterials, the hydration, mechanical strength, and piezoresistivity of carbon nanomaterials modified cementitious composites are reviewed in this paper, the existing problems are summarized and possible research directions for the future are proposed as well.
