Abstract
Electro-Fenton has drawn tremendous attention due to in-situ H2O2 formation via two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and electro-reduction of Fe2+/Fe3+. The cathodic two-electron ORR determines •OH generation rate and its total concentration. Therefore, this review concludes H2O2 accumulation mechanism in an overall process perspective including the strategy to enhance oxygen mass transfer, to improve two-electron reactivity/selectivity, to reduce/hinder invalid H2O2 decomposition. Moreover, the application of the electro-Fenton process was concluded. Finally, an outlook on future research challenges on electro-Fenton is proposed.
