Abstract

Electroactive membrane combines the advantages of electrochemistry and membrane filtration in rel⁃ evance to pollutant removal, which shows a great promise of potential application for water purification by virtue of efficient mass transfer, low energy consumption, less membrane fouling as well as high flexibility. To thoroughly study the mechanism of electrochemical water treatment technologies, taking typical MXene and its composite mem⁃ brane electrode materials as example, the construction principle and the water purification application of electroac⁃ tive MXene(E-MXene)membrane were reviewed. Recent advances on the removal of heavy metals,oil/water sepa⁃ ration, desalination and coupled processes were systematically reviewed. In addition, the technology development of E-MXene membrane in water treatment field were prospected.
