Abstract
Persulfate-based advanced oxidation technology (PS-AOPs) driven by biochar has attracted extensive attention from the environmental science community in recent years. Herein, we summarized the currently adopted modification approaches in the design and development of biochar-based metal-free persulfate activators, introduced the application of biochar-based PS-AOPs in the elimination of stubborn organic contaminants, discussed the novel nonradical activation mechanisms, and finally put forward the future research direction and challenges.
