Abstract

This paper introduced the structural layout of the Chuandou-type timber frames folk houses, based on the results of earthquake damage investigation of Yangbi M6.4 earthquake, classified and summarized the failure phenomena of Chuandou-type timber frames, and drew the conclusion that the overall failure degree of Chuandou-type timber frames is higher than that of masonry structures and concrete frame structures. Compared with the phenomena that the damage of the Chuandou-type timber frames is slighter than that of the masonry structures and the concrete frame structures in the Lushan M7.0 earthquake, a preliminary explanation is given from the difference of the ground motion and the difference of the retaining wall. Based on the existing studies, some suggestions on the improvement and reinforcement of the Chuandou-type timber frames are put forward.
