Abstract
To predict the wave resistance and wakes induced by advancing submarine, a fast Rankine panel analyzing method based on the potential theory was proposed with Rankine source solved analytically. First, the mathematical formulation and numerical implementations were introduced. The wave-making resistances of Newman prolate spheroid model were computed and compared with published results. Then, the difference of the wave patterns, wave-making resistance and wakes between Suboff model and Newman prolate spheroid model were analyzed and discussed. Finally, the CPU time consumed by the present numerical model was summarized. Computed results confirm that the developed numerical model has the capability of predicting the wave resistance and wakes induced by advancing submarine, and its computational efficiency makes the optimization of body-plan, hull design and real-time prediction of wakes feasible in the engineering point of view.
