Abstract
Taking the 205/55 R16 radial tires as the research object, the finite element models of the tires with flatness rates of 45%,50%,55%,60% and 65% were established respectively,by adjustment of the width of the tire cross section. The static ground contact characteristics(footprint and normal contact stress)of the tires with 5 kinds of flatness ratios under different vertical loads and inflation pressures were analyzed by using Abaqus software. The simulation results showed that as the flatness ratio increased, the width of the footprint along the tire axis decreased, and the length of the footprint along the tire rolling direction was the largest when the flatness ratio was 60% or 65%. The flatness ratios had a great influence on the footprint areas of the tires. The larger the flatness ratio was,the more uneven the normal contact stress distribution of tire was,and the more obvious the warpage phenomenon was. For the tires with the same flatness ratio, the greater the vertical load was,the greater the normal contact stress at the shoulder was,and the greater the inflation pressure was,the greater the normal contact stress in the middle of the tread was.
