Abstract
This paper proposes a novel wireless power and data transfer (WPDT) scheme by using an orthogonal magnetic coupler consisting of two planar square coils and two DD coils. The proposed scheme shows the advantages of lower crosstalk, more degrees of design freedom, and easier circuit analysis. Optimization design method of the orthogonal magnetic coupler based on finite element simulation is proposed, and the reason for low crosstalk between power transfer and data transfer is clarified. Both power and data transfer characteristics are studied. To verify the theoretical analysis, a WPDT prototype with a maximum output power of 47W was built. The power transfer distance is 130mm, and the outer dimensions of the orthogonal magnetic coupler (including both power and data coils) are 120mm×120mm×15mm. The DC-to-DC efficiency of the prototype is 68.4%, and the data rate is 1.0Mbit/s. By comparing the waveforms of data transmission alone and energy and data cotransmission, it is demonstrated that the crosstalk between power transfer and data transfer can be ignored.
