Abstract

To study the responses of single-layer reticulated domes subject to multiple earthquakes (including main shock-aftershock sequences), a primary set of main shock-aftershock sequences was constructed from PEER (Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center) and CENC (China Earthquake Networks Center). 342 groups of acceleration time histories in 14 different main shock-aftershock sequences were identified for the dynamic analysis of seismic performance in a full process domain. Based on the curves of several characteristic factors which corresponding to acceleration amplitudes, the aftershock effect was elaborated. First, five different levels of aftershock effect were defined through the description of analysis examples with different acceleration amplitudes. Subsequently, as a result of a significant amount of parametric analysis, the pattern of the ability in aftershock effect resistance was summarized, influenced by the maximum nodal displacement, plastic development and damage degree at the end of main shocks. Finally, the ratio of 1P and the damage factor at the end of main shocks were determined as the indexes about the evaluation of the ability in aftershock effect resistance, to provide reference for practical engineering seismic design in civil infrastructures.
