Abstract
The sponge city construction proposed in China aims to solve the urban waterlogging caused by the city's rapid development and the inadequate water-related infrastructure. After four years of innovation and practice, remarkable results have been achieved. 30 pilot sponge cities have withstood the test of the rainstorm in flood season. In response to the deficiencies in the management system, technology, and facilities in the control of waterlogging discovered during the pilot construction process, this paper proposes the following strategies. The construction of sponge cities should be systematically promoted across the region together with the improving of the management system, carrying out systematic planning and construction and intelligent management, strengthening the training of technical talents, improving relevant standards and regulations, and promoting multi-disciplinary research on stormwater and flood control.
